Why the file is an MP4
The video file TikTok serves for a normal post is an MP4. TikDownTok passes that file through so your browser can store it with a clear name. You do not convert it by hand, and you do not install a converter.
Each MP4 row shows what we know about it: resolution when the source includes it, an approximate size, and whether a watermark is present. Two rows can both be MP4 and still be different files.
Choose the right MP4
A higher resolution, such as 1080p or 720p, is a larger picture. It is also a larger file. A 540p file is smaller and loads faster. If you only need a copy to watch, the smaller MP4 is often enough. If you are keeping a video you created, choose the largest clean file that is listed.
On a computer, the MP4 usually lands in Downloads. On a phone, check the browser’s download list or the Files app. A full device guide covers the exact taps.

What will not become an MP4
A profile page, a search page, or a live video is not a single post file, so there is nothing to save as MP4. A photo slideshow is a set of images, not one video. Use the photo downloader for those. Audio, when it is offered separately, is an MP3 or M4A rather than an MP4.
Private, deleted, or region-locked posts can fail even when the link looks right. Paste the link again if a download button expires before the file finishes.
